to Kitchen
What started as a lesson in entrepreneurship is now a working food truck where a teacher and his students are building, cooking, and learning in real time.
Michael went to Hampton University to become an architect. While at HU he realized that his real passion was working with the youth. Michael received his education degree from Central State University and began teaching high school students for the next 10 years. He soon learned his real passion was teaching students how to become entrepreneurs. Michael made sure that every economics student knew how to get an LLC in the state of Georgia before leaving his class.
During the Covid pandemic in 2020, Michael started a second business building food trailers for clients, he built around 50 trailers for clients, noticed how well they were doing and decided to build a food trailer with go two of his former students who were chefs.
That’s where Jelani and BJ come in. As students, they are not just helping out. They are actively involved in cooking, running, and managing the food truck. They are learning firsthand what it takes to build something from the ground up, from the kitchen to the business side.
The truck is more than just food. It is a real-time example of mentorship, ownership, and execution all happening at once.
With a menu inspired by Atlanta culture and a story rooted in real experience, Bird & Batter is about good food, shared vision, and showing what’s possible when you actually go for it!
Michael's desire is to always push himself and others to dream big and this two year labor of love with his former students is finally here! We are looking forward to serving metro Atlanta.
